Antigonish Bag Co.
Southside harbour, Nova Scotia

These bags are all handmade in small batches with attention paid to the details of each bag. At the moment, I work with a fabric wholesaler in Montreal and a wax wholesaler in Ontario for my raw material.

All bags start with the production of bag blanks – the unbleached cotton canvas shell – and at this point, the process is similar for all bags. The bags are then either dip dyed or kettle dyed. The dip-dyed bags are one of a kind, and while the kettle-dyed bags are still hand-dyed, they require less hands-on attention. All bags are finished and waxed – these processes – while administered by hand – are the same for all bags.
